YongLi Red Tile Plaza by We&Arch explores spatial layering through a system of distinct architectural volumes. The project includes a large cantilevered gable entrance, a reception pavilion floating on water, long column-free corridors, and clustered dining pods arranged in a garden-like setting. I have always enjoyed the references within Manet’s painting Luncheon on the Grass to Raimondi’s The Judgment of Paris and Titian’s Pastoral Concert. Welcome to Juju’s castle. Presented at @nanzukaunderground Art Institute, it contains 70 new paintings produced during the past few months in Tokyo, Wash drawings, animation, a full blown room by room soundtrack, numerous painted wooden and steel sculptures, a 4m sword, cardboard installations, a giant hydra, fine glass characters, a mini train and some surprise. It is a mix between a dungeon crawl and a museum show. It’s an ode to fantasy and escapism and I hope you’ll like it. A humongous thank you to everyone who worked hard to make this show happen.
