September 3, 1995: We headed north to the Arctic Circle for a little Polar Beach Party with some lucky contest winners and all of the locals in Tuktoyaktuk, Canada. It was a once-in-a-lifetime gig, and we have such amazing memories from our visit. Here’s a look at an early performance of “Devil’s Dance” from this ultra-special show. Saw Metallica on their Wherever We May Roam tour in San Antonio—killer show. Afterward, I went to a club to play some pool and, to my surprise, Metallica showed up. My buddy Rodney had made this bootleg Budgie shirt and happened to have it in his car. He asked me to grab it and give it to James Hetfield. I ran out, got the shirt, and we went up to say hello. I handed it to James, and he held it up, checked it out, and gave me a solid handshake with a “thanks.” I honestly thought it’d get lost on the road or tossed later. But imagine my surprise about three years later, when I came across photos from the soundcheck of this concert —and there was James, wearing the white Budgie shirt I had given him that night in San Antonio. Still blows my mind.
