My grandpa is one of the people who have shaped me, my family, and our approach to life the most. His love for life is expressed through his gorgeous garden behind my grandparent’s house on Bowen Island. Hummingbirds are known as “flying Jewels” and I can totally see why. Roughly 328 species of hummingbirds exist worldwide, and the small country of Ecuador has 130 of them. These photos are mostly of the Violet-Tailed Sylph, the Velvet-Purple Coronet, and the Green Thorntail (any birders- please correct me if I’m wrong). They move so insanely fast, it took me ages to finally get a few shots of these beautiful little birds.

After 3 days in Ecuador’s cloud forest, I saw 3 species of colourful toucans. Each only stopped for brief visits. Their arrival was a flash of colour- a squawk into the jungle and they were off again. @ana_tourguide and @davidjacomeconcept picked me up from the airport and took me on this incredible adventure. We stopped at @khamai.bio where they are raising money to help save the Amazon rainforest and cloud forests here in equator. Shot on the Sony A1ii and 600mm f/4 lens.

Pelicans often get overlooked because they’re everywhere, but they’re absolutely crazy looking creatures. I spent a few minutes with this Brown Pelican in the Galapagos as it tried to make sense of me and my camera.
