As demonstrations continue in Los Angeles following a series of coordinated city-wide federal immigration raids on June 6, Carolyn Drake (@drakeycake) took to the city’s streets on June 14, photographing protesters at and around the Los Angeles City Hall in its Civic Center district. The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) led a series of raids across Los Angeles, resulting in thousands of arrests, receiving widespread criticism from local officials, advocacy groups and activists for what is seen as the indiscriminate targeting of immigrant communities. Large-scale demonstrations in Los Angeles and other cities in the USA followed, seeing violent clashes between protesters and law enforcement, including 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines deployed by the Trump administration to curb unrest — an act condemned as federal overreach by California state officials. What I see is Indulgence. Cosplaying at protestors for the shot and virtue. I can’t take this seriously, since it s a full on photoshoot at this point. My husband is from Argentina and obtained his citizenship legally and was actually confirmed when Trump was first in power. There are ways to go about getting in this country. Fighting for your right to do whatever you want wherever you want is not the way to go about it. These images are a great display of ignorance and anarchy. Do the right thing.
