“I believe there is a relationship between the experiences of art and of nature, in that both have definite functions at appropriate social and creative levels. Works of art, literature, or music have little value or human benefit if held available only to the few. If such is not of general human benefit what are its reasons for being? Comprehending the natural world is, in itself, an act of creation and should be universally shared.” — A. A. ‘Maroon Bells, near Aspen, Colorado,’ 1951. Three color palettes that use warm beiges, rich browns, and deep neutrals to evoke a timeless atmosphere in your travel images! With @nataliafsar / Light, water, and shadows combine to create the perfect canvas for nostalgia. As @nataliafsar traveled from Corsica to Amalfi, her goal was to capture more than just scenes - she aimed to craft a visual narrative that feels like an old-world travel journal blending mystery with memory. Through monochromatic and analogous earthy tones, this series brings together warm beiges, rich browns, and deep neutrals to evoke a timeless atmosphere. Below, we break down the first three color palettes in this series so you can find inspiration to refine your editing style with similar tones: 1) Image one blends deep neutrals and warm earth tones. The dark charcoal (0f0f10) adds contrast, while the soft sand (d0b498) and muted caramel (a38466) bring warmth. The earthy taupe (332d27) and warm walnut (695240) reinforce depth, reminiscent of aged maritime journals. According to Jonauskaite et al., 2020, earthy hues like the ones used in this photo evoke warmth and familiarity, making it perfect for vintage storytelling. In addition, these colors together symbolize nostalgia and stability. 2) Similarly, image two features sunlit beiges and rich browns. Soft ivory (dfcaaf) and warm sandstone (c4aa91) form an inviting base, while cinnamon (a37b59) adds depth. The deep amber (35231f) and chestnut (6c4935) provide a nostalgic, film-like quality. These warm colors enhance emotional connection and comfort (Wilms & Oberfeld, 2018), making this palette ideal for intimate, timeless imagery. According to color theory, this palette feels grounding, historical, and rustic. 3) Image three features deep browns and rich, dark hues. The deep brown-black (0D0805) and very dark reddish brown (110907) provide depth, while the chocolate brown (120A07) adds warmth. In addition, the dark coffee (0C0704) and rich espresso brown (100806) complete the palette with a bold, grounding feel. This palette adds more contrast and mystery, creating a cinematic noir effect.” @nomadict: What are your thoughts on these fantastic palettes by @nataliafsar? 🎨

The journey of lava. It’s been just over fours years since the first of the eruptions on the Reykjanes peninsula. From the very first day of the eruption, I worked for weeks at a time filming at Fagradalsfjall for various natural history productions. It really set my career on a new path, diving deep into the craft of filming nature. Those first few days were absolutely wild, I will never forget the feeling of hauling my cinema gear and Inspire II out to the site. Truly worth the grind! Sounds from the legends @ethermachines and @france.fabris.
