Every child should grow up with a pet. It teaches so much during a child’s growth…love, respect, responsibility and compassion. Secondly it teaches loss, which unfortunately is so hard. All in all this will make you a well rounded person.

Today was their very first day on safari — a moment I’ve pictured in my mind for years, but nothing could prepare me for how it would actually feel. We left mama and their 3-week-old baby sister at home and set off for @kapotocamp, my safari camp in the heart of Masai Mara, Kenya. It felt surreal, but in the best possible way, to share this with my kids. My kids have grown up surrounded by wildlife stories. They’ve seen the photos on the walls, flipped through the books, and heard me talk about the incredible places and creatures I’ve been lucky enough to encounter. But today, it wasn’t my story anymore — it was theirs. For the first time, they truly got to experience what I do. For the first time, they had cameras in their hands. I wanted them to feel what it’s like to press that shutter not for the sake of a perfect picture, but for the thrill of capturing a moment. To see how a single image can hold a memory, a feeling, and even a message. Cheetahs, elephants, hippos, zebras — and so much more. Every encounter sparked fresh wonder, fresh excitement, and memories I know they’ll carry for a lifetime. Watching them experience all of this for the first time, camera straps around their necks, eyes wide with wonder and hearts open to the wild — it warmed my heart more than I can put into words. This trip isn’t just about making photographers. It’s about raising future conservationists, teaching them the value of wild places and the power of storytelling. And seeing that spark in them today was a moment I’ll never forget. Their first safari. Their first time behind the camera. Their first steps into a world I know they’ll spend a lifetime loving and protecting.
