Bear, German Shepherd (8 m/o), Tompkins Square Park, New York, NY • “She’s my first German Shepherd, and it’s been chaotic. The first few months were hard, but now she’s finally calming down. It’s rewarding, but it’s definitely taxing. I raised her in Pennsylvania off leash, and she started eating bear poop and deer poop. It was in the winter, so it was frozen, and it was like a delicacy to her. She was a construction dog, and she’d chew through the walls — she was mostly demolition. We’re working on training her to be an avalanche dog — she loves the snow and backcountry skiing.”

My Amazon delivery driver came and said ‘by the way, there’s a dog outside your door bleeding’. I go downstairs and he has no collar, no chip, nothing. He had an iPhone cord around his neck as a leash, and he was all freaked out, covered in blood. I called the local vet and brought him to the ACC, but nobody claimed him. He’s great — he’s the most chill dude you’ve ever met. I’m an artist, so I spend a lot of time in my studio alone. I love having him and his energy there.” @ghostofthebowery
