Phil Heckles, aka @portraitsbyhercule, has been creating pet portraits he calls “rubbish” since 2020. He drew his own dog (last slide) and put it on Facebook, jokingly offering paid-for commissions, but genuine requests immediately flooded in. He decided to use the traction to raise money for his local homeless charity Turning Tides. His initial goal: £299. Five years and over £400,000 later, he’s still going. Phil has also begun raising money for Street Vet, an organization providing essential vet care and services to those experiencing homelessness in the UK. He shared that he has well over 80,000 requests for portraits in his inbox, but “I’ll keep drawing for as long as you keep supporting this, and I can’t wait to get to that next milestone with you.” 14/10 for Phil and the many pets he’s drawn ❤️
