Nature Is Metal
Life Doesn’t Get a Vote Out Here 📽 by @zacoley Snapped in the Serengeti - a female wildebeest, mid-labor, stuck in a brutal mess. Something was wrong from the jump. No squirming, no kicks, nothing from the calf. Just a dead lump hanging there while she fought to shove it out, like nature had already clocked out on the deal. She was at it for hours. Up, down, dragging herself back to her feet, every muscle screaming to push out what wouldn’t budge. Normally, a calf twists and thrashes to help things along, but this one? Nothing. She was on her own, running on fumes, battling a ghost. No clue how it played out. Maybe that lifeless calf finally dropped, cold and still. Maybe she gave out first. Or maybe a lion, cheetah, or a gang of vultures swooped in to clean up the wreckage. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nature Is Metal is powered by you! Being surrounded by scary vehicles while giving birth must be wonderful

Sad. She was probably drinking or smoking during her pregnancy. Smh

No honestly, I get the „don’t intervene in wild life“ thing but here, a bunch of trucks clicking their cameras around while this mother is at the end of her power… is voyeuristic cruel shit. This time I really think someone should have helped.

My 2 cents as a veterinarian neurologist: this animal is probably suffering from “calving paralysis” as well, when important nerves (sciatic and/or femoral) are damaged due to an intrapelvic trauma/prolonged pressure, in this case, due to a probable oversized/disproportional fetus. In the video, is clear to me that the sciatic nerve is the most affected, as cows with such lesion are not able to adduct the pelvic limbs and as a result, we see this split with the legs, not being able to stand up. This leads to more trauma to the adjacent structures. Prognosis is not so good, so either way, this animal is probably dead.

It’s horrible. But now a predator mom and her alive babies will win an easy meal. So the wheel turns. I feel for this mama. I do. Mine was stuck also. 27 hours and 6 hours of pushing. I feel this in my bones. Lucky to be human.

It happens sometimes with our cattle , we try to help pull the baby out, sometimes it works, sometimes its impossible and does not and you just have to let it be, and the vultures and other wildlife take over

One photo from a landscape photography travel destination followed by one photo from Denmark my home country. Once it clicked and I figured I could probably get something along the same lines as what I’ve captured out there in world, whether it’s the same conditions, same subject, same technique or same composition, it became soooo much more fun to shoot at home. It really did change my photography forever! No we still don’t have mountains, epic waterfalls, cracking glaciers, puffins, whales and big deserts, but we have so many other things. Check out my latest video on YouTube where I teach you to photograph locally. AND if you want to dig even further into local landscape photography be sure to get me and @nigel.danson course on Mastering Local Landscape Photography. In this 4+ hour and 13 video course we’ll be teaching you how to find great locations, how to use them optimally, what strategies to use to optimise your chance of getting great photos, what to do on location, how to compose, edit and print what you capture, what apps to use and much more! This ENTIRE course can be yours for only $99! Check it out via the link in my bio 🤓
