Shingles, a viral rash, can be incredibly painful. Vaccination can help prevent the infection, but new research is showing the shingles vaccine may also have another benefit: protection against the development of dementia. With more than 40 percent of Americans estimated to develop dementia at some point in their lives, this discovery could have groundbreaking implications for our health. But what explains the link between the shingles vaccine and reduced dementia risk? Learn more at the link in bio. Micrograph by James Cavallini, Science Photo Library

Trust me. I’ve had shingles 3 times. First time was relatively mild. Second time, it was all over my torso and back. Then the third time was the worst. It was on my face and neck. It went into my eye, my ear, my nose and my scalp. It was very painful, miserable and very close to messing with my vision. Get the vaccine

I had the immunisation just to minimise the risk of shingles- which is a horrible disease. If there’s an added benefit to lowering the risk of dementia then that sounds even better!
