Nature Is Metal
Defying Gravity 📽 by @selvatica_ecoretreat This green parrot snake swallows its prey while hanging from a tree by employing powerful, rhythmic muscular contractions in a process called "pterygoid walking," where flexible skull bones, including the quadrate and pterygoid, allow the snake to alternately grip and pull the prey upward with its upper and lower jaws. The quadrate acts as a mobile hinge connecting the lower jaw to the cranium, allowing the jaw to open widely and move independently, while the pterygoid, located in the palate, is an elongated bone that aids in gripping and pulling prey through the mouth during the "walking" process. The snake’s rear-curved teeth secure the prey, preventing slippage, while elastic throat muscles and lubricating mucus facilitate smooth movement against gravity. The snake anchors itself by coiling its body around a branch, providing stability to focus energy on swallowing, with the slow, methodical jaw movements ensuring the prey is steadily drawn into the stomach despite the upward orientation. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nature Is Metal is powered by you! This year’s trip to Tuscany has without a doubt been the most productive and mind-blowing ever! 🤯 I’m also delighted that both our groups got to experience fog at this famous location. We actually got both the best and second best conditions @samuelsciclunaphotography and I have ever seen here! This photo is a blue hour dream photo. I absolutely love the atmosphere and how the fog makes the hills look like islands in the sky. The articulated light of the buildings helps emphasise the time of day and makes for a great colour contrast to the blues. Just like the pre-dawn warm sky adds a beautiful colour contrast to the cold landscape. Art! I have both a chapter on blue hour and one on colour and how you can use it in your landscape photography in my ebook ‘Landscape Light’. The ebook is 251 pages making it my most comprehensive ebook to date! The minimal text and tons of examples makes it easy to read though! Not to mention I have added extensive Exif data to all the photos! If you still haven’t got it there is a link in my bio. Happy learning 🤓
