An Ode to California: some of my favorite landscapes that shaped my eye & work as photographer. Most people picture palm trees & Hollywood when thinking of California… but I genuinely would struggle to think of many places more diverse within such close proximity. Pristine mountains, expansive deserts, 840 miles of unique coastline, giant forests, the list goes on… I’ve come to love many places in the world but this beautiful state is still home at heart and here are just a few of the thousands of images of it in my archive.. also available as prints on my website - 🔗 in my profile

One of my absolute favorite alpine huts 🛖 maintained and owned by the mountaineering club of alaska! What an adventure this was mid summer 😍 with my hiking friend @turtlesbackpack

Nature Is Metal

A pair of zebras crossed the Talek river in the Masai Mara. The unlucky one had a pretty ugly encounter with a crocodile. While the zebra was quick and frantic enough to leave the river with its life, it could not escape the mortal wounds it sustained in the process. Not long after this, it sat down and never got back up again. 📽 by @imara.in.mara - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nature Is Metal is powered by you! We’re always in awe of our underwater world 🪸 Stretching along @queensland’s coast, our @gbrmarinepark is one of the richest natural ecosystems on earth. The World Heritage-listed treasure is home to over 900 islands, 2,500 individual reefs and 1,500 species of fish, making for truly unforgettable snorkelling and diving encounters 🐠 Check out the @lifetimeofgreatness Project to find out why our Great Barrier Reef deserves to become the first non-human recipient of the United Nations Environment Programme’s Lifetime Achievement Award 🏆 🎥 : @miliramiro 📍: Wistari Reef, @southerngreatbarrierreef, @queensland #SeeAustralia #ComeAndSayGday #ThisIsQueensland #SouthernGreatBarrierReef #LifetimeOfGreatness ID: Text over video reads “Over 9,000 species of marine life call this natural wonder home” as a video shows the view from a helicopter flight over a bright turquoise reef.

Hubble Space Telescope

There’s more to the universe than meets the eye! 👀 Here’s a look at a galaxy group in light humans can’t see - infrared and X-ray - as well as optical light. We’re seeing it as it appeared when the universe was 6.5 billion years old, a little less than half its current age. More than half of the galaxies in our universe belong to galaxy groups like the one pictured here. Studying galaxy groups is critical for understanding how individual galaxies link up to form galaxy clusters, the largest gravitationally bound structures in the universe. This image combines infrared data from Webb with infrared and optical observations from @NASAHubble. The data from @NASAChandraXray and ESA’s XMM-Newton, shown in purple, shows where X-rays are emitted by hot gas in the group of galaxies. The second image shows just the Hubble and Webb data. Read more in @ESAWebb’s bio. Credit: ESA/Webb, NASA & CSA, G. Gozaliasl, A. Koekemoer, M. Franco, and the COSMOS-Web team Image description: An area of deep space with thousands of galaxies in various shapes and sizes on a black background. A few gold-colored galaxies are bunched closely together in the center. A large, translucent purple cloud lies over the galaxies, thickest across the center where the gold galaxies sit, and fainter up to the right. This shows where X-rays are emitted by hot gas in the group of galaxies. The second image is the same image without the purple X-ray data.

Hubble Space Telescope

Launch of a legend! 🚀 35 years ago this month, the space shuttle Discovery took off from @NASAKennedy with Hubble. Once in space, a crew of five astronauts deployed the telescope, kicking off decades of discovery that continue to this day. We’re exploring Hubble’s story one chapter at a time this week. Experience the mission through 27 impactful images at the link in our bio! Image descriptions: 1 - The Hubble Space Telescope is released by the space shuttle Discovery's robotic arm into space. The reflection of Earth is seen in Hubble's aperture door. 2 - Five astronauts in blue polos pose for a photo inside the space shuttle Discovery, holding up the deployment mission logo. Behind them, a sign reads "HST is open for business!". #Hubble35 #NASA #Hubble #astronaut #space #science #telescope #astronomy #universe #cosmos

Nature

EYELASHES / Big eyes, long eyelashes, a petite nose; a dik-dik male posing for a portrait in golden sunset light. The smallest antelope of the African savanna, it weighs not much more than a house cat. It lives in strictly monogamous pairs that comfort each other after dangerous situations by licking their partner in the face. It’s highly adapted to arid areas, among others by having a sophisticated climate-control system in its nose. This one is from Samburu National Reserve in NE Kenya. 📸 @mogenstrolle
