Video by @michaelgeorge | This happens to be the most famous tree in New Zealand. Now known as That Wanaka Tree, it was originally planted as a fence post to keep livestock from wandering into town. The willow branch unexpectedly took root and sprouted new branches, surviving even as it was overtaken by the lake. If you visit the shores of Lake Wanaka, you’ll find crowds of people taking photos of it. From a fence post to an icon, the tree has become a symbol of resilience.
