#CanonPhotographer @dustinsnipes shares the importance of building a team dynamic with your subject in this episode of #CanonUnscripted! 📸

Canon USA

For our Intro to Photography workshop with Canon at Brooklyn Lab High School, students were challenged to submit photos that capture the essence of their own communities through a final project called “My Neighborhood.” Using visual techniques and storytelling principles they learned in the course, they captured images that reflect the people, places, and moments that shape their everyday environments. Students then visited Framebridge to learn about the professional printing and framing process. There, they selected the size, layout, and frame style for a set of three photos each—ultimately showcased in a private exhibition for friends and family. Curated by Kith photographer Obi Obioma who taught the course, the exhibition offered a vivid glimpse into the lives and surroundings of these emerging young photographers. Through vibrant street scenes, striking architecture, candid portraits and personal moments, each student revealed a unique perspective—supported by personal reflections displayed alongside their work. To celebrate their achievements, one student was awarded a Canon camera through a drawing, giving them the opportunity to continue developing their skills beyond the classroom. We’re deeply grateful to Canon for their generous support—providing cameras for each student and helping nurture the next generation of creatives.

Photo of #CanonExplorerOfLight @nataliekeyssar: "As a photojournalist, the most important thing about my gear is that I don't have to think about it. I photographed most of the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine with my two absolute favorite pieces of gear Canon has ever made, for their reliability and the way they become an extension of my eyes and arm when I'm using them. The EOS 5D Mark IV and the EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens. The intimate focal length and quality of this setup allows me to quietly and respectfully do my job, and never have to worry that rain, dust, or bumps in the road are going to stop me from telling the stories I need to tell for my job. Photo from Irpin, Ukraine, April 1, 2022."

Up for a last minute adventure to the Arctic? There are still a couple of spaces available on my upcoming Svalbard voyage, starting next week on the 21st of May with @naturalworldsafaris! We will be spending 9 days on board @rvkinfish, heading through the sea ice to the most remote parts of the Svalbard archipelago. With photography as a focus on the trip, our small group of up to 12 people will be searching for pristine Arctic landscapes and wildlife, all while experiencing 24 hours of daylight. This is one of the most unique trips I’ve ever done in the polar regions and I can’t wait to share it with those of you who will be joining us! Head to the link in my bio to see all the booking info and prices for the voyage. See you soon Svalbard ⚓️

An analogous color palette with warm yellows and muted browns to keep developing your editing style! With @withsamjohn / Yellow stimulates mental and spiritual clarity, making it an ally for creative and intellectual work. Yellow has the power to combat depression and bad moods. It is an active color that lifts our spirits and can help reduce fatigue, stress, and nervousness. Like light, yellow is highly visible—a color easily detected by the human eye. Even people who suffer from color blindness can usually see yellow. In addition, this color has the power to comfort the viewer, illuminate the space, and fill our bodies with energy and vitality. Yellow creates a bold contrast with any color and can be used to brighten a palette. Pale yellow, for instance, is a good alternative to gray because it functions as a neutral color while enhancing vitality. When you mix yellow with browns, something grounded and reassuring begins to take shape. The brightness of yellow softens, tempered by the earthiness of brown, resulting in a palette that feels warm, natural, and deeply human. This combination evokes the tones of autumn leaves, sunlit wood, and golden fields after harvest. It brings a sense of comfort and nostalgia, balancing vitality with stability. Yellow brings the light, while brown anchors it, creating an atmosphere that feels alive and serene. Together, they tell a story of joy rooted in simplicity, like a harmony that feels timeless and close to the soul. This harmony between yellow and brown is where emotion meets elegance—and it’s precisely the feeling @withsamjohn has channeled into the palette of image one. Designed to bring warmth, depth, and a nostalgic glow to your edits, this selection of tones offers both creative freedom and aesthetic consistency. Here is the palette in case you would like to explore it in your upcoming edits: fed794 – Light apricot 2b2622 – Deep charcoal brown e6ad72 – Warm gold 9a7252 – Muted copper 554134 – Earthy mocha @nomadict: Which moments in your work would feel more alive with a touch of yellow? 🎨
