@paulamoratal whisks us away to a wild swimmer's dream in Valencia, Ruta Río Fraile! 🇪🇸 ✨ This natural gem boasts dramatic rock formations sculpted by time, crystal-clear waters perfect for a dip, and a scenic hiking trail for all levels. Explore hidden waterfalls, natural pools, and diverse wildlife! 💧 🦅 Getting to Ruta del Rio Fraile: 📍 The closest town is Bicorp, Valencia. 🚗 You’ll need a car to reach the trailhead. From Valencia, take the A-7 and CV-590 towards Bicorp. Look for signs for the “Ecomuseo de Bicorp.” 💶 Parking is available near the official starting point, with a daily fee. Hiking Routes: 1️⃣ Lower Route (Barranco del Fraile): This is the shorter and easier route, perfect for families and beginners. It starts near the Peña Cortada swimming area and follows the river downstream, offering stunning views and natural pools. (Approximately 1.5 km round trip) 2️⃣ Upper Route (Circular Ruta del Fraile): This longer route offers a more challenging hike with breathtaking views. It winds through the canyon, passing waterfalls and hidden coves. Be sure to wear proper footwear. (Approximately 4 km round trip) Best Time to Visit: 📆 Spring (April-May) and Fall (September-October) offer pleasant temperatures for hiking. 🔥 Avoid peak summer months (July-August) as it can get very hot and crowded. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends. 📽 @paulamoratal 📍 Ruta Río Fraile, Valencia, Spain #beautifuldestinations #beautifulspain

For millennia, foraging was a vital source of sustenance, and Alexis Nikole Nelson is helping communities reclaim the tradition. It's a practice that connects us to our ancestors and the plants they might have foraged, making it a timeless pursuit. We're proud to recognize Alexis as a #NatGeo33 honoree for sharing educational nature content and handy foraging tips with her audience. In 2019, a team of archaeologists in Egypt found a treasure trove of mummified crocodiles—and made a surprising discovery along the way. Found in the necropolis of Qubbet el Hawa in Southern Egypt, the crocodiles were unusually well-preserved but lacked the usual characteristics of embalming—suggesting a different method was used, and furthering our understanding of embalming techniques in ancient Egypt. Car tire dust is having a deadly effect on salmon in the Pacific Northwest—but could it be harming us too? 6PPD-quinone, a chemical that sheds from tires into stormwater runoff, has been found to cause rapid death in coho salmon within hours of exposure. The substance has also been found in human blood and urine, leading experts to question its long-term health implications on our bodies. As researchers race to find safer tire additives, the ongoing damage to our ecosystem remains a serious issue. Learn more about how car tires are affecting the environment at the link in the bio. National Geographic Explorer and Photographer @macstonephoto documented this great white heron chick, surrounded by cacti and nesting alongside an unhatched sibling on an island within Florida Bay, part of the birds’ historic breeding grounds. “As a parent of two, I found the audacity of this tactic incredible. The Everglades isn’t the most nurturing environment, so perhaps herons are preparing their young for a world that bites back,” says Stone.
