Nature Is Metal

The Emptier Of Nests 📽 by @brandonvdz Bald eagle grabs a fledgling blue heron while mom and dad are out killing other things to eat. Just like every other predator, bald eagles are notorious for seeking the path of least resistance when looking for something to eat. Why spend all day fighting a river for fish when you can raid a nest and keep your energy expenditure to a minimum. It might not seem like the noble way to do things but the math checks out. By keeping their energy spend low, they can “save” it for unexpected challenges, like defending their own nest from a sudden threat. In the unpredictable wild, keeping energy reserves is a smart move, even if it means walking the less noble path. If you’re looking for a silver lining to this one, it looks like there were two chicks in the nest and the eagle only got one of them. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nature Is Metal is powered by you! I absolutely love looking at birds because they’re gorgeous but they are some of the most malicious animals on the planet! 😅

He got tired of them squawking and had to physically reduce the noise volume all while remaining calm and collective.

Always when stuff like this happen I can only imagine how helpless a newborn animal feels, hoping for its parents come for rescue. But yeah, eagle gotta eat too.

Well, herons do commonly kill their siblings while the parents do nothing or even abandon or kill weak chicks themselves.

The last one might be controversial 😬🇮🇸 Iceland is such a magical country and I have been lucky enough to visit 4 times now… and I could go back again and again! There are truly endless things to see and do when exploring Iceland and it can be difficult to pick and choose things for your itinerary. I wouldn’t necessarily *not* recommend the last 3 spots, I just think you could do something better if you’re on a time crunch & only want to visit the BEST sights. #icelandthingstodo #icelandtrip #icelanditinerary #iceland

I owe so much of my passion for landscape photography to the fact I’ve learned to photograph locally! By photographing locally I can make 100% original work, I explore new landscapes and areas close to home I’d never see without the intend of photography, I experience the full process of landscape photography from doing the research and legwork, getting inspired and coming up with ideas, waiting for the optimal conditions, taking the photo, editing the photo and maybe printing it. Here is a collection of some of the photos I’ve taken in Denmark over the years relatively locally to where I’ve stayed/lived at that time. AND if you want to dig even further into local landscape photography be sure to get me and @nigel.danson course on Mastering Local Landscape Photography. In this 4+ hour and 13 video course we’ll be teaching you how to find great locations, how to use them optimally, what strategies to use to optimise your chance of getting great photos, what to do on location, how to compose, edit and print what you capture, what apps to use and much more! This ENTIRE course can be yours for only $99! Check it out via the link in my bio 🤓

For years, the U.S. government has warned travelers they will soon need a Real ID to board domestic flights, only to keep postponing the deadline. But “soon” appears to be real this time. As of May 7, passengers will need to present a Real ID or another approved form of identification like a passport. A standard driver’s license or state ID will no longer pass at airport security checkpoints, the Department of Homeland Security says. We explain what to know, including how to apply for a Real ID, at the link in our bio. Photo by @dustchambers

As clear and crisp as it gets! Perfect ice for practicing V threads or A threads. Definitely will melt as soon as the sun warms things up this spring so putting this hole in this ice berg has little to no impact. . You can hear my excitement as it takes a certain kinda blue ice to get me going 🧊💙

Sea Lampreys are ancient fish that have survived for millions of years, using their round, toothy, sucker-like mouths to latch onto fish and feed on their blood and fluids. They’re born and spawn in freshwater rivers and streams, and while they can live in the lakes connected to these rivers, they mostly use them as a brief stopover in their native North Atlantic range before heading to the ocean to feed. As parasites, sea lampreys play a role in aquatic ecosystems by feeding on host fish, which helps cycle nutrients and keeps fish populations from growing too large in their natural habitats, while also providing food for predators like birds and larger fish in the food chain - a properly lampreyed fish is considerably weaker and easier for the hungry to capture. So even these eerie wriggling nightmare creatures reveal the importance of parasites in maintaining balance in the ecosystem. 📽 by @roysboyscharters - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nature Is Metal is powered by you!
