Hubble Space Telescope
Shine bright like NGC 6397! ✨ This star cluster glitters with the light from hundreds of thousands of stars. At 7,800 light-years away, this is one of the closest globular clusters to Earth. Globular clusters are roughly spherical collections of stars bound together by their mutual gravity. The cluster's blue stars are near the end of their lives. These stars have used up their hydrogen fuel that makes them shine. Now, they're converting helium to energy in their cores, which fuses at a higher temperature – resulting in a blue color, as seen in this Hubble view from the mission's 18th year. We're sharing one outstanding image from each year of Hubble’s mission to celebrate its upcoming 35th birthday – counting down to a new series of anniversary images! Stay tuned for more, and get caught up at the link in our bio! Image description: Several white and blue stars with diffraction spikes shine against black space. Image credit: NASA, ESA, and H. Video by @joelsartore | Known in Hawaiian culture as “jewels of the forest,” snails, such as this critically endangered O'ahu ground snail once filled the forests of Hawaii. Without action to protect these and other snail species, experts say that around 100 Hawaiian snail species could be extinct within the decade. #PhotoArk
For decades, the Congo Basin—home to the world’s second largest rainforest—was largely invisible to climate science. Spanning about 500 million acres across Central Africa, this vital ecosystem had been left understudied, despite its immense potential to affect the global climate. But a new generation of scientists in Central Africa is changing that, leading the charge in exploring and protecting the rainforest. At a time when the health of our environment is more critical than ever, these scientists are reshaping our understanding of how to safeguard the Earth’s future. Unravel the mysteries of the Congo at the link in bio. Scientists pictured include Gertrude Mbumbu, Emmanuel Kasongo Yakusu, Michel Attanga Bongombe, Nestor Luambua, Blaise Kombozi Bwanandeke, Bienfait Kambale, Jean Paul Bakumi Bafelo, and Aaron Tshimi Ebele. Zoologist and photographer Sherif Abdallah made this image of a red palm weevil using a microscope lens. He focused on different parts of the insect and made dozens of separate photographs. Combined, the shots create one sharp, clear picture. “Beneath its destructive reputation, the red palm weevil reveals a mesmerizing complexity—each groove, curve, and texture of its exoskeleton tells a story of adaptation, survival, and destruction,” says Abdallah. The last one might be controversial 😬🇮🇸 Iceland is such a magical country and I have been lucky enough to visit 4 times now… and I could go back again and again! There are truly endless things to see and do when exploring Iceland and it can be difficult to pick and choose things for your itinerary. I wouldn’t necessarily *not* recommend the last 3 spots, I just think you could do something better if you’re on a time crunch & only want to visit the BEST sights. #icelandthingstodo #icelandtrip #icelanditinerary #iceland

I owe so much of my passion for landscape photography to the fact I’ve learned to photograph locally! By photographing locally I can make 100% original work, I explore new landscapes and areas close to home I’d never see without the intend of photography, I experience the full process of landscape photography from doing the research and legwork, getting inspired and coming up with ideas, waiting for the optimal conditions, taking the photo, editing the photo and maybe printing it. Here is a collection of some of the photos I’ve taken in Denmark over the years relatively locally to where I’ve stayed/lived at that time. AND if you want to dig even further into local landscape photography be sure to get me and @nigel.danson course on Mastering Local Landscape Photography. In this 4+ hour and 13 video course we’ll be teaching you how to find great locations, how to use them optimally, what strategies to use to optimise your chance of getting great photos, what to do on location, how to compose, edit and print what you capture, what apps to use and much more! This ENTIRE course can be yours for only $99! Check it out via the link in my bio 🤓
