Fossils dating back 209 million years have been unearthed in the ancient rock of Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona—and they include the oldest pterosaur found in North America: Eotephradactylus mcintireae, or the “ash-winged dawn goddess.” This Triassic treasure trove took a decade to fully excavate, but it revealed a fascinating plethora of species, including dragon-like reptiles, early turtles, and large predatory super salamanders.
