National Geographic
National Geographic Explorer @justingilligan was surprised to spot Hippocampus kelloggi, one of the world’s largest seahorse species, in this Australian lagoon, as it typically prefers the warmer waters farther north. “Off the shore of Lord Howe Island, I found this perfectly camouflaged great seahorse, who captivated me with its intriguing bloodred eyes and knowing expression," says Gilligan.
