Nature Is Metal
The Wild Comes Home 📽 by @zmendo Mountain lion carved up this deer and left it on someone's driveway. It pays to remember that certain human carveouts around North America are still inhabited by wild lions, aka mountain lions, pumas, cougars or panthers, which roam several regions overlapping with human settlements. These adaptable predators thrive in diverse habitats, from mountains to deserts, and are found in the western United States, including California’s Santa Monica Mountains near Los Angeles, Colorado’s Front Range close to Boulder and Denver, and states like Arizona, Utah, Oregon, and Washington. In Canada, cougars inhabit British Columbia’s Vancouver Island and areas near Kelowna, as well as Alberta’s Rockies near Calgary. In Mexico, they roam northern regions like Sonora and Chihuahua, while in Florida, the endangered Florida panther lives in the Everglades near Miami and Naples. Though elusive and typically avoiding heavily populated areas, cougars may venture into suburbs or rural communities seeking prey like deer, highlighting their ability to coexist near human territories across the continent. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nature Is Metal is powered by you! A lion left all that good meat??

Is he alive?

Is it just me or does that look like a relatively clean disembowelment?

Yeah, the math ain’t mathing here for me. Clean lines along the cavity and ribs, blood everywhere but under the actual carcass, odd damage to the antlers, and the prey left out in the open? Bare minimum, humans moved it to unblock the driveway. But the whole thing looks sus, especially compared to the carcasses I’ve seen in the wild. 🧐

Did the lion have a leatherman?

It’s interesting if you look closely, you can see that the mountain lion was gnawing on the antlers to get pieces of the velvet off too. That’s interesting behavior I didn’t know they do that.

I was so incredibly lucky to get a bit of low morning fog during the pre-sunrise blue hour when I visited Omø to photograph the lighthouse. I absolutely love the calmness in these photos, which of course makes them less likely to be liked on Instagram, but some of them are definitely gonna make it to my favourite photos of the year book. If you wanna learn more about light, golden hour, blue hour, midday light, night light and much more be sure to get my ebook ‘Landscape Light’ it’s easy to read and has tons of examples and EXIF data. There’s a link in my bio. Happy learning 🤓
