Feed The Birds 📽 by @tmacstar Naturally, when one seeks to attract anything from the wild into their respite from the outside world, sometimes they are also inadvertently leading what may be looking to capitalize on the very same generosity. Roadrunners can and will pull this off in the wild, but the feeder takes all the guesswork out of their plans for lunch. These opportunistic, omnivorous predators have many ways of securing something to eat. Insects, lizards, snakes, rodents and bird eggs make up the bulk of their diet, and they fill in all the gaps with seeds and fruits when times are tough. As you can see from the video, they are experts at moving their body into position to grab stuff above them, but they are even better at chasing things down on the ground. Their quickness helps with that. They can run flat out at speeds of roughly 20mph (32kmh). The only catch is, they aren't really good at flapping those wings/flying. In fact, they are pretty mediocre at it. Sure, they can jump up and make short work of a distracted hummingbird, but they always return to the earth. They are kinda like chickens and turkeys in that way, except way faster and less delicious. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nature Is Metal is powered by you! @chrisburkard chases light to create the perfect photograph. He also chases challenge and immerses in darkness to navigate his own evolution. He's a true explorer of the external and internal landscapes. In this episode of What’s the Rusch, Chris and I go beyond the lens and into the darkness to examine the light within. We revisit insights from our Iceland winter bike crossing together. That was our first and only adventure together, so far, but the bonds form deep and fast in extreme physical environments like that. Chris impresses me with his insatiable curiosity and commitment to living passionately. It's so refreshing to converse on an intimate level with a strong, resilient successful, athletic male. Chris breaks the masculine, stoic mold and is living proof of the strength in vulnerability and the joy of embracing a beginner's mind. Just as his photography examines raw and extreme landscapes, his personal explorations do not shy away from the same type of internal terrain. For anyone who's juggling family, career, passion, and personal growth this episode is for you. I hope you'll listen to the full episode (link in bio) and share what you glean from his insights. We had fun with this and I hope you will too. Thank you to our partners @guenergylabs & @livemomentous for bringing us this conversation. If you take your health seriously, you need to head to show notes or link in bio for your discount codes from GU and Momentous.

A jewelry box full of stars 🌟 This 2018 Hubble image shows aging red giant stars alongside smaller, white Sun-like stars at our galaxy's central hub. In this dynamic environment, variously aged stars zip around at different speeds depending on their chemical compositions. Our Milky Way's center is about 26,000 light-years away from us. We're sharing one outstanding image from each year of Hubble’s mission to celebrate its upcoming 35th birthday – counting down to a new series of anniversary images! Stay tuned for more, and get caught up at the link in our bio! Image description: Several stars fill the field of view, glittering in shades of red, orange, blue, and white. Hats off to you, Sombrero Galaxy! As we gear up for the mission's 35th anniversary next week, the @EuropeanSpaceAgency shared a new Hubble view of this iconic galaxy featuring the latest data and new processing techniques. The Sombrero Galaxy is located around 30 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. Though packed with stars, the Sombrero Galaxy doesn't produce many new ones. Less than one solar mass of gas is converted into stars within the knotted, dusty disk of the galaxy each year. Find out more at the link in our bio! Image description: The Sombrero Galaxy is an oblong, pale white disk with a glowing core. It appears nearly edge-on but slants slightly in the front, presenting a slight top-down view of the inner region of the galaxy and its bright core. The outer disk is darker with shades of brown and black. Different colored distant galaxies and various stars are speckled among the black background of space surrounding the galaxy. @takashi_okashi captured this tiny mountain dweller in its natural habitat—so precious!🎌 💡The Japanese pika (Ochotona japonica) is a small mammal native to the mountains of Japan. It’s often called the “whistling hare” because of the sounds it makes! Would you be able to spot a Japanese pika in the wild? 🕵️♀️ Share this with someone who loves a good wildlife challenge! 📍Japan
